More transparent and inclusive budgeting in Moldova
To strengthen transparent budgeting in Moldovan municipalities and motivate their young and adult citizens to become active in this process. This is the aim of the project: “More transparent and inclusive budgeting in Moldova: involving active and young citizens in three municipalities in budgeting and transferring experience to other Moldovan municipalities”.
Agora CE, together with the Moldovan partner organization IDIS, will help young people from three municipalities (Ialoveni, Straseni and Budesti) to become more involved in budgeting at the local level. The three municipalities will implement a participatory budgeting process and local young people will learn not only how to participate, but also create their own proposals for the development of the city. At the same time, the municipalities will become examples of good practice in involving youth in public decision-making on budget issues.
The project will also support transparency and citizen control over the budget management of these municipalities. Local informal leaders will be educated on ways to engage in budget processes and will actively participate in controlling their municipality’s budget for the next year. They will also share their knowledge with their fellow citizens through information campaigns to make citizens better informed about the budgeting processes in their municipality.
Finally, within the project, other Moldovan municipalities, local activists and those interested in democratic innovation will learn about the benefits of youth involvement in participatory budgeting and will be prepared to implement this process. Youth involvement in participatory budgeting will be evaluated in all three participating municipalities and an analysis of participatory budgeting throughout Moldova will be carried out. Examples of good practice from the three municipalities will be presented to representatives of other Moldovan municipalities at the final conference and training.
The project is supported by the Transition program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
