Project Objectives
The project aims to support Moldovan women by strengthening and professionalizing their participation and influence in local politics, thereby consolidating democracy, strengthening gender equality, inclusiveness and sustainable development in Moldova.
Although Moldova has had gender quotas for higher representation of women in politics since 2019, and the Moldovan Parliament has 40% of female members and the President is also a woman, at the local level the representation is almost half lower. Gender inequalities in society still prevail, and women who decide to run for or already hold public office often face insults and hate campaigns.
The project has two specific objectives, which it achieves through a series of activities. Firstly, strengthening the capacities of newly elected female councilors and mayors, resulting from the local elections in November 2023, through a series of workshops, conferences and networking. This goal also includes a study trip for selected female politicians to the Czech Republic, which will increase their expertise and motivation to work in politics. At the same time, it increases the recognition and visibility of successful female politicians, experts and activists, and thus respect for women and their work in Moldova, using an online database of female experts on local politics, which will be created in Moldova thanks to the project.
The project is supported by the Transition program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
